story on parental pressure on students

Austin Hernandez, aged 17, was a splendid student with an I.Q.  well more than 150. He lived in Boston, US. He always scores more than 95% marks in all the scholastic subjects but was very bad in Sports and other co-curricular exercises. In spite of his scholarly splendor, his confidence level was low. He was a modest and evaded human company. His behavior was a reason for worry for his folks who wanted him to be a perfectionist in everything. They neglected to understand that it was this very want of theirs that had caused all these behavioral issues. One of Austin’s teachers had recommended that he should be encouraged to take part in different co-curricular activities which would help him in defeating his inhibitions and make him increase confidence.

Austin’s folks had consistently constrained him to focus just on his studies. They never permitted him to sit in front of the television or play with his companions. Whenever he was approached to take part in extra-curricular activities, they drop a letter to his class tutor that Austin couldn’t have extra time for such activities. He needed to focus just on his examinations. The members of the school committee, where Austin studied, expected him to bring laurels to the school by getting the highest percentage in Boston, in the Board exams. So they never interfered with his requesting guardians.

As time started to pass, Austin’s over-ambitious folks realized understood that in the present world ‘smartness’ is a higher priority than scholastic brilliance. What's more, Austin wasn't half as smart children of the individuals in their family circle. So, they wanted Austin to change his current personality and weren’t happy to give him enough time.

One day Austin’s class tutor informed his guardians about the Annual Sports Meet. A child who was never permitted to play had to take part in each and every single athletic activity. He was unable to arrive at the end goal in some significant distance races, while in the others, he blacked out mid-way. He came toward the last in various activities. A child who had consistently stood first his class, in scholastics, felt like the biggest loser. Nobody was sympathetic towards him. His companions harassed him and his dad didn't talk to him for five days.

After this, his folks persuaded his class tutor to permit him to take part in an inter-house play competition. He was given the chance. The helpless fellow forgot his lines and his 'Team lost. Every one of his friends offended him and his folks offered no help, rather they bemoaned his ineptitude. The champ had transformed into a customary loser. Everybody taunted and ridiculed him. He went into severe depression but nobody ever tried to understand his situation.

All this not stopped here. Next, there was a team quiz competition at school. This time Austin's dad needed him to investigate every possibility. Aside from his course books, he was forced to study at least four hours every day regularly, after coming back from school, to perusing General Knowledge books. For the next three weeks, he slept for only three hours, every day. There were deep dark circles, under his eyes. He had additionally lost a great deal of weight. However, his parents ignored all this.

Finally, the wait ended and the most-awaited day of the quiz competition came. Austin was brilliant at scholastics so remembering dates, individuals, occasions, etc. wasn’t an issue for him. He performed extremely well in the first and second rounds. His guardians looked very joyful and happy. The third round was that of Sports, there was negative marking in this round because Austin had no interest or information about games, so the score of his group decreased. He looked at the expression on his dad’s face was very horrifying. The bad performance was given by the other members of his team no one’s noticed.

Austin, the mindblowing student wasn’t doing great in a competition. Everybody seems to be disappointed with him. This made him anxious. He gathered all the mental fortitude that his week body had and focused hard. After the games round, he performed well in the various rounds that followed. His team began to lead. In the last round, he gave two continuous wrong answers and his group lost 40 points. There was a tie between the teams.

When Austin’s dad understood the gravity of the blunder that his flawed child had committed, he nearly fell off his seat. Austin saw this. The competitors continuously answered the tie-breaker question. When the question was put to Austin’s group, he knew the correct answer, yet didn't reply. He saw his dad's expression and suddenly collapsed and died.

Final Thoughts

Don't force your dreams, your wishes on kids rather try to understand their thoughts, their wishes, what they want in their life.

"We grow up in a belief system according to which children should always make their parents proud and happy (instead of making themselves proud and happy) - and that’s, unfortunately, the belief system in most cultures.”
